I have been unemployed a number of times and had debts to pay. I have never watched the months to go to see if it became SB and I could get out of paying a debt I had run up. In fairness the OP is not doing this, but it does seem to be the first advice given. See if it is statute barred or if the company cant produce the paperwork.

So while you are right that I have never been in the exact same position I have had loans, store cards, overdraft and credit cards when I needed them but paid back every penny owed - and before you say it I am aware that many others have as well.
