I can really recommend Streatfeild's adult novels too. They're not that easy to get hold of but Persephone have republished 'Saplings', which is a really moving story about a family during WW2.
I ordered this from my library (still free of charge:j unlike some of the people who've posted about charges for their reservations) and have just picked it up from the mobile library van today. It's the only one of her adult ones that's in their catalogue, sadly.
Also, they don't have copies of the Richmal Crompton and other adult books by favourite childhood authors that people have mentioned. Will need to scour the charity shops or maybe try an inter-library loan, although I suspect there may be a charge for that service. Never had one so need to check.0 -
I have just finished reading Trading Up by Candace Bushnell which was a wonderfully trashy read. She is the Author of Sex and The City and this book was in the same vein.0

I'm a third of the way through Patricia Cornwell's latest "Depraved Heart".
Oh my....it's like wading through treacle! No plot to speak of and I haven't got a clue what Kay Scarpetta's on about half the time. Hate giving up on a book but........
Used to love the earlier books but I fear Ms Cornwell's literally lost the plot with the last few books.Normal people worry me.0 -

I have just finished Tin Men by Christopher Golden.
"Tin Men begins with the end of the world as we know it and takes off from there."
Thoroughly enjoyed it. I do seem to be reading a lot of end of the world/zomble apocalypse books at the moment. Speaking of which I'm reading "Under ground" by S L Grey next.0 -

I gave up on the Patricia Cornwell book. I'm far to old to have the time to waste reading the rest of it!
Still hate giving up on a book though - thank goodness I got it from the library rather than having spent money on it.Normal people worry me.0 -
A few days ago I finished reading Homecoming by Cathy Kelly, it was an enjoyable read. The novel is set in Ireland and is written in a way that you feel like you are living and feeling the same emotions the characters in the book are. The book is written in the present but has some notes written in the past. I learnt a few things about Irish traditions and food and felt closer to my dearly departed nan who was Irish.
I'm now reading Follow me home by Cathy woodman who is one of my favourite authors.£2 savers club 2025 #2= £480 -

This has opened my eyes to Jamaican heritage, I would love to visit and see the real country. (I'd always thought of it is a dangerous sunny prison before, which the all inclusive resorts are). I love the tradition of oral story-telling, there's something so comforting about it, I guess that's why I like Maeve Binchy. I've recently bought some short story compilations of Chinese and Indian heritage, can't wait I get stuck in now!
