Campaign for Regulation of Care Home Fees

Are there any others here who like me are being ripped off for Care Home Fees for an elderly relative with dementia or similar. I am trying to get my MP to petition the house for regulation of Care Home Fees to prevent the horrendous increases we are having forced upon us. Is anyone else prepared to email their MP and get them to lobby for such legislation. If we all act together we might get something done. As an illustration in three years the care home fees I pay have increased 26% we are not milch cows for wealthy expat Care Home Owners we need to fight back

The problem with care home fees is that if you are self funding, you do not just pay to fund SELF. The more residents a home has that need local authority funding the higher the fees need to be for those who are self funding.
For example:- care home needs £10k per week to operate safely. They have 10 residents at £400 (that actually is an overestimate of what they receive from then local authority). What do they need to charge the other 10 residents of the home that are self funding? Answer £600 per week.
With LAs actually cutting what they are paying per resident per month (and taking a LONG time to pay it too). The only alternative for care home to remain solvent is to charge the self funding residents more.
If you have a family member who is resident in a care home and is dependent on LA funding, be grateful that the carers do not know who is self funding and who is not. At least that way they are not discriminated against.
NONE of the above means that I agree that the self funders should subsidise the LA paid ones. Exactly the opposite. But having priced up homes around here (including using my nose) when my mother was in one, it becomes fairly easy to tell which are which.0 -
Yes I am aware of that anomaly, but it still does not mean we should sit back and allow Care Home providers to charge these exorbitant fee rises. I worked out last night my mother's Care Home Fees have risen 26% in just three years.0

And you feel they have you over a barrel and you don't want to "make a fuss" in case somebody starts to be a bit mean to your old mum.0
