Re-writing the past

Most of my life i got things on credit and didn't pay, not going to lie or beat about the bush, I was a complete bum. Now i want to re-write my past and pay everyone in instalments, without going bankrupt. How do i find out who I owe and who do i contact to set up instalments so I can spread a monthly £50 amongst the lot of them pleas so these companies can get their money as i am ashamed of myself?

Hi Davy123 and welcome to MSE.

It is very hard to take the first step when dealing with your debts so you have done a very positive thing here today.

If you have lost track of your debts then the first step would be to get one copy of each credit file (Experian, Equifax and Call Credit). This should help you understand how much is owed and who is now dealing with the debt. Please be aware though that not all debt appears on your credit file (things like council tax, parking tickets, magistrate court fines etc) won't be on there. And if the debt defaulted more than 6 years ago it may have fallen off the file as well. But it is the best place to start.

Once you have these details you can work out a detailed SOA (post it on here for more tips and advice) and then start to negotiate. Good Luck

If it's been more than 6 years since you paid any of these accounts, I wouldn't bother, as they are likley to be statute barred.

Can you provide a bit more information, type of debt, date accounts opened etc ?

Do you need good credit history for some reason? Like getting a mortgage?

The OP has explained why they want to pay - they are ashamed of what they did and want to try and put it right.

The question is relevant because there may be a good reason why the OP needs to deal with this.

    Otherwise, Sourcrates reply applies.

Have you paid any of these accounts within the last 6 year's ?

You can have a heart, and a conscience, and they can still be statute barred.
