advice on returning to Tesco direct

so i bought a tumble dryer from Tesco direct, it broke after two days?
i phoned them to tell them the problem and ask for a refund, thats were the problem started.....
they have to send an engineer to look at it to confirm its faulty as so many people send things back that are not faulty apparantly?
this is not there policy its indesit..... this is going to take another week.
i than asked what if had i changed my mind could i return it she said no! i asked about the 14 days online returns policy they offer?
o yes but its too late because you have said its faulty?
So, if i had have phoned and said I have changed my mind it would be going back and refunded very soon, because I was honest/stupid its going to be another week I have to wait without having a dryer and lots of washing building up from my 3 toddlers...:(
