You could also use it to dye white clothes that have seen better days. Just soak in dish of soup and it will be forever orange no matter how much you wash it!

You have to wonder how much colourant is in this soup as you drop some on your top and it never comes out.!

We've decided to start with a spag bol, then work thru some of the recipes on here.
I usually just use 1 tin of chopped toms and a little puree, I find it's enough sauce for me. I might just stick to a tin of soup and some sliced up cherry tomatoes.

    I shall keep you posted!

First tin used last night: Sausage & Bean Cassoulet - Serves 4

    100g Dry Exotic bean mix
4 Sausages (recipe wanted chipolatas but I used normal sausages and cut them up)
    4 Bacon rashers chopped
    1 Red onion
    2 Garlic cloves
    1 carrot
    150g Mushrooms
    1 Tin chopped toms
    700ml veg stock
    Mixed herbs
    1 TBS Worcester sauce
    Salt & Pepper to taste.

The recipe wanted 2 tins of chopped toms, but I find 1 is plenty. I replaced the tin of chopped toms with a tin of soup and a handful of chopped cherry tomatoes we had left over in the fridge.

    1) Soak dry beans overnight. Rinse through before using.
    2) Pre-heat oven to 200oC
    3) Fry sausages until golden, remove from pan and set aside (this is when I cut them up)
    4) Fry bacon until crispy. Add onion, garlic, carrot and mushrooms, fry for 5 mins.
    5) Stir in chopped toms (or in this case 1 tin of soup and your left over chopped cherry toms), stock, herbs worcester sauce and beans.
    6) Bring to the boil then simmer for 10 mins.
    7) Season, transfer to casserole dish, cover and cook in the oven for 30 mins.
    8) Take photo to upload while SO complains that you're wasting time when you should be dishing up.
    9) Enjoy noms.

A little sweeter than with chopped toms, but we both agreed it was an improvement.

    11 tins left!

    Recipe no.2 : Tomato Mac & Cheese - Serves 4

The recipe wanted Condensed Cheddar Cheese soup, and a jar of Italian tomato sauce. I swapped this around and made a cheese sauce and used tomato soup. I added cooked chopped bacon too.

    1 Can Tomato Soup
    1/3 Cup Milk
    2 Cups dry Macaroni

    For cheese sauce:
    25g Butter
    25g Plain flour
    600ml Milk
    80g Cheese

    1) Chop and cook bacon, set aside.
    2) Put pasta on to boil.
    3) Make the cheese sauce.
-a) Melt butter, stir in flour until it makes a thick paste.
-b) While on a low heat slowly, bit by bit, add the milk while stirring. The sauce should become smooth.
-c) Up the heat a little and simmer for 8-10 mins. Keep stirring or it will burn and/or form lumps. Sauce should thicken up.
-d) Add the cheese and melt in.
    4) Drain the pasta, add to the sauce.
    5) Add the bacon, soup and milk.
    6) Stir til bubbling, dish up and sprinkle on a little extra cheese.

I thought it was a little too runny for mac & cheese, but very tasty. I think next time I wouldn't add the extra 1/3 milk and would use maybe 400ml of milk in the cheese sauce to get it thicker.
Or maybe add another cup of macaroni and make it serve 6.

    Thumbs up from the bf.

    10 tins to go.

I would have used more cornflour than 25g to make it much thicker. Maybe 100g would have made the consistency quite thick.

Had this last night, very tasty! Definitely adding this one to my recipe book for another day. The soup worked really well. My usual hm curry is usually quite spicy, so it's nice to have an alternative milder curry.
    Big thumbs up.
