£12k tax fine help needed

Options
My partner has a tax fine after losing her pension in a scam, she has been fined £12,000 by the taxman as in THEIR opinion she had money from it (which she honestly didnt) i have been paying this fine every month but now i cant afford it and have missed 4 payments, my partner is registered self employed even though this year she has made no profit due to suffering depression, the taxman is sending an enforcement agent around, the debt isnt mine and my partner is making herself unemployed to to it costing us and she makes nothing, we thought i couldpay for her to be bankrupt, but they have put in a little used fine that stops anyone from going bankrupt, what can i do?

You need to seek advice from a decent, reputable qualified insolvency practitioner.

  • Money advice service,

Which will then direct you to stepchange.org

Speak to the professionals about it (step change are a debt charity (no they dont give money away) but they dont charge you to work out initial problem etc) )

The enforcement agent can do nothing without consent except lie and make threats.
They can not break in to the home, all they can do is basically scare you in to paying, it will be a private debt collector with a face full of lies and threats.

  • Thank you for the replies, i have already been in contact with stepchange, just not sure I trust them as they state it is my place to pay this debt, and inhave just found out it isnt....they also stated that this fine has a smaller fine attached to it that stop my partner going bankrupt, which again i am finding out that NO one has ever heard of this (taxaid and accountants)...

Its looking like it will go down the CCJ route, which i must admit to being nervous about as never been down this route before.

I will be contact stepchange on Monday to see if they can explain more.
