I can't really help on the work side, but one observation. How many people do you know who say "it was the stupidest thing I have ever done"? Never make a decision based on someone else's grass being greener. It very often isn't. There are tremendous advantages to staying in too - knowing you can pay off the house sooner, maybe putting something aside after that for other things you would like to have. And that army pension isn't to be sniffed at either - a good (and even full) pension when still relatively young and able to take on new things is never going to happen in civvy street, and it's a very useful cushion when you do get out.

    Sangie is 100% correct...

My husband waived at the 8 and 12 year point, in the end he completed 25 years service. He left with a full pension and practically walked straight into an excellent well paid job at the age of 41....Those extra years paid off for us in more ways than one while the guys who left early still live with the regret for numerous reasons all these years later.. Have you considered 're-badging, a different trade may reignite the fire?

That being said, it's not just a job though it's your whole existence so if it's not making you happy then you need to do what you can to change things.

I suspect the pension aspect could turn out to be a major factor, and needs to be looked at carefully before making a decision. There are few private sector jobs with good pensions anymore.

Thankyou for the replies. I understand what you mean, and I know a few who have rejoined after leaving aswell. I have said it for a long time but as I say its my mates saying the grass is greener. Pension ain't the same but still one of the best. Poppy what do you mean by he Waived at 8 and 12 year point? I know if I did the whole career I would be glad I did, but it seems such a long time. In fairness I'm doing what I grew up wanting to do. I guess my mum is right then when she says I could be in alot worse place. I guess don't be a sheep and follow the herd.
