Advice on Captial One please!

Right, back in feb i asked capital one if i could lower my payments as i was having some difficulties..

I sent them all the things they needed and i never heard from them, just a few debt letters.. no statements nothing!

So now i have sent them two settlement letters- nothing, i then asked for my charges for last 5 years and they happily sent me these!

I am now worried something is going on and its going to sneak up on me, should i call them and ask or should i write another letter but more formally this time?

Im worried about calling because i know the collections people can be quite intimidating! Help!

You are right HG - Capital One Collection CAN be quite intimidating, and DO have a habit of 'sneaking up on you.
You say that you asked them in February, for a possible payment reduction, yet have heard nothing.
Are you still making regular payments?
In the absence of any reply, I would suggest that you make payments at the level that you can afford, even if that is below the minimum payment requested. Make these payments regularly and, if they come back to you, inform them that you have written to them but not received any answer and that, as you are not trying to 'avoid' your responsibilities, you are making the maximum payment that you can afford until such time as you can come to an agreement with them.
I am NOT, nor do I profess to be, a Qualified Debt Adviser. I have made MANY mistakes and have OFTEN been the unwitting victim of the the shamefull tactics of the Financial Industry.
If any of my experiences, or the knowledge that I have gained from those experiences, can help anyone who finds themselves in similar circumstances, then my experiences have not been in vain.

  • I have been dealing with my Capital One debt for more than a year. From my experience they have been very easy to work with, once you communicate with them and stick with whatever arrangement you have made. They have never shouted at me or sent nasty threatening letters or harassed me with many phone calls.

You should continue paying whatever you can afford, no matter how small, and call them to try and sort some kind of arrangement. At least they will see that you are making an effort. Don't wait until they send you a letter. I started paying them £1 per month, then every few months they write to me and we have gradually increased it. Now paying £7.

It also helps if you have a CCCS number. I have one but CCCS have never helped me because at the time I didn't have £100 extra each month.

To echo what iwanttoberich said. We have a National Debtline number, they were happy with that and then accepted the pro-rata payment and froze interest and charges after four months
