MoneySaving Poll: Are you richer than your parents were?

I seem to be living in a different world to others who have replied here, my parents were OK, they had sufficient for their needs and were able to afford holidays and treats and I had moved out and had a mortgage of my own at 25 and wasn't financially dependant. I also had no tuition fees and I received a small grant which didn't have to be repaid.
I find myself now in my late 50s supporting our two sons in Uni, and an elderly Mum so I am still working to keep all our heads above water and pay a mortgage. I am in the public sector with pay that has been held down for many years and in real terms my pay has eroded although I love my job.0 -
We're better off than my parents and DH's mum were. My parents were lucky enough to be retired at our age (52 and 55) due to generous public sector pensions though, so we're not really comparing like with like. We all started work at 16 and bought our first houses in our early 20's, but my parents only paid their mortgage off when dad was 66, ours is already paid off.0
