Buy postage online quickly

Of course I'll elaborate. I ask about the monopoly because Royal Mail are not publicly owned anymore. Do they have a monopoly on selling postage online?
You can print your own stamps with Pitney Bowes but you need to rent their machine. You can buy stamps online but they're sent in the post.
I didn't try Yodel etc. because I just wanted to print a stamp, stick it on the package and walk to the postbox. In 2016 that doesn't seem unreasonable: open an app on your phone, type £7.43 (or click 2nd Class), click, Pay, click, Print. Do Yodel etc. offer that service?
You just wanted to print a stamp...and if you did that, what would there be to stop you printing the same stamp more than once and just using it again and again, free? That WOULD be a flawed business model!0 -

there is a unique code,
but even so in my workplace we have 2 million envelope pre printed with postage stamp0 -
Totally baffled by this - I've never had a problem. What's ebay got to do with it? If you weigh and measure a package accurately and then buy the correct postage, end of story. I suspect that ebay is being (wrongly) blamed because so many sellers just guess!
Nowadays I never use the post office for any sort of UK parcel - Hermes is cheaper, offers tracking and ParcelShops are open much longer hours than post offices. The vast majority of stuff arrives within 48 hours. Occasionally there's a problem and you find out just how poor Hermes' customer service is...but no worse than the nonsense you go through if you try and claim against Royal Mail!
Not sure why you are baffled by it, Ebay is NOT being wrongly blamed.
The Post Office have told me that its a known issue with Ebay Postage calculator.

If you have envelopes with pre printed postage, then you already paid RM direct.
You can also buy those.
If you have envelopes with a business reply licence. Then they will be billed on use.
Neither is simply a case of printing of a stamp.0 -
Just use the rates on Royal Mail's website - problem solved!

I used to like those, but haven't seen them for years - do you know where you can buy them?
I've not seen any simple ways to buy postage online though - Royal Mail's online postage is anything but simple and straightforward.0 -

Well Nickz. Where does the profit come from?
I alluded to it,but seems it needs laid out.
Company X provides a system where you simply "get £1.26 in postage" paid by Paypal.
How are they paying Royal Mail? How is the correct postage printed?
Who pays the Paypal fees?
Who pays for the hosting/website etc?0
