9 year old debt / almost at end of 6 year

Hi all

I received a debt letter from debt collection company claiming I owe sky £300 ish for a debt that is almost 10 years old.

I filed for bankruptcy in Jan 2010, but was not aware if this debt
I have disputed it saying it is not mine.
I also advised them of my bankruptcy order and showed them the letter and to contact the I solvency service.

My question is do I have to pay this debt? As I'm concerned it's going to damage my credit file now I am at the end of the bankruptcy this month?

Thanks.

Either the debt falls into your bankruptcy or it is too late for them to chase it. Do not pay it under any circumstances.

What is the name of the company trying to claim it?

Possibly passed down through the ranks and even though its not enforceable it wont stop some trying. I had some issues a good while back and received the you have a package and we called but you were out cards.
Card was send royal mail 1st class so obviously something fishy.

Unless they are claiming the debt is newer than your bankruptcy then
maybe just keep sending the same bogoff letter or ignore?

Caboot finance is the company that I assume has bought the debt from sky.
Is there a time limit on debt anyway?

If you haven't acknowledged or paid a debt for 6 years then it becomes statute barred and unenforceable.

However what I think has happened in this case is that Cahoot has bought a bundle of debts from Sky and they haven't checked each individual one they have just sent out letters hoping to get some hits.

If this is a debt from before your BR in 2010 then it will have been included in your BR. All you need to do is sent them a copy of your bankruptcy order, if you have it or a screen shot of your entry in the London Gazette.

Also get your credit files from all 3 of the credit agencies as per the clean up stickie and make sure that all of them are correct.

That's great that's exactly what I did when I hot the letter and emailed them the screen shot :)

    I can rest easy now.
