If I start work in March. Do you notify HMRC at that time, but do the submitting of tax forms for 2016-2017 in Jan 2017?

If you start a new job you don't normally notify HMRC, you fill in a form supplied by your new employer and your new employer notifies HMRC.0

You should notify them as soon as you start but you have until 5th October 2016 to do so.
As you start in March that is the 2015/16 tax year. The deadline for online returns will be 31st Jan 2017.0
