Some advice would be great!

So..... To cut a very long story short- ish. I sold my property nearly two years ago. I am currently renting as I had two separate house purchases fall through. I am now starting to look again as I feel mentally ready to start this god forsaken process once again.
We had a mortgage for 12 years with Nationwide. No problems, credit score good, no missed payments, no credit cards or loans. We have a deposit. Depending on the property value and state of it this could go up to £110,000. We had arranged two of the mortgages in principle with Nationwide until we lost the properties but felt we were not getting the best deal from them. We had felt it was easier at the time to stick with who we knew, but this is not what will be happening this time around.
So my question is: would one be recommended to seek out the services of a mortgage broker? To do the leg work and find the best deals or should one just do it themselves? These are new waters for me. To get a mortgage broker/advisor or not? Money is tight as we have paid out two lots of house purchase (only to be aborted) with solicitors fees and surveys etc etc. Is a broker expensive business?
Thanks in adavance.

A lot of brokers don't charge anything, instead they are paid by the lender. The broker we are using came recommended by a few people and isn't costing us a penny.
  • NATIONWIDE MORTGAGES - DISGUSTING CUSTOMER SERVICE AND COMPANY PRACTICES.

We applied for a mortgage back in October and it was all approved fine, the property was being sold to us by a relative at a discounted price. 1 week later the mortgage consultant told us to bring more documents employee contract etc so we did, then 1 week later he told us the valuation has come back less than what we said, we found this shocking as few months before someone we know was looking to buy the same house through you and you valued it at 104k but now valued it at 95k, so we appealed and sent proof of other properties in area selling for more whilst they were much smaller! The case handler agreed there was a legitimate case of appeal, weeks later no update after several calls, we then complained to the CEO and again no one called back in the time promised, then a case handler called us and promised to get a third valuation peeson to revalue the property and if worth at 104k like they valued months ago they would correct the paperwork and send the mortgage offer, we explained the seller is getting frustrated and we were stressed of losing the house. The caas handler told us 95% it would all get approved soon as the valauation comes back, we explained we did the DIP in october and the consultant told us this would expire on the 16th of January 2016 but the case handler said it would be approved before this and worst case they could extend this.. We paid the solicitor fees and waited.. Then ON NEW YEARS EVE we got a email saying whilst we are arranging a revaluation your mortgage application has been Declined by undeewriters due to nee information? No one had decency to call to explain!! The mortgage consultant is also shocked about this! How can the mortgage decline when it was approved after we gave all the docs and were simply waiting for the revaluation!! My partners credit check is totally fine as we have checked and no change in job etc either!!! We will take this to the ombudsman and trading standards!! Absolutely DISGUSTING!!
