IT contracting

  • Well, thanks for the great responses. I've decided that whilst i'm young and still learning (only a wee 27 year old IT consultant with 2 years of industry experience and 2 years academic) I'll hold off and see where my career will take me. I should be a Senior analyst at work within the month (it's annual appraisal time!). It is funny as I could just walk into a contracting role such as this: http://www.cwjobs.co.uk/JobSearch/JobDetails.aspx?JobId=32370252&DCMP=A_PT_IW_SB_1&Keywords=HL7+OR+%22Health+Level+7%22&JobType1=20

At the moment, my training is provided is work (I actually run a 2 week course to train interface analysts) and I hate, positively hate filling in tax return forms. That's enough to put me off contracting! I jest, but I think i'll stay where I am for the moment until I've got a few more years under my belt.
  • i'm kind of in the same boat Ringo.. my 7 1/2 year job is looking flakey and could be out on my er in 10 hours.
Got contacted about a contract job in London for 3 months at £270 a day. If i can't find anything nearer to home permanent and they're interested then i'll have to give it a shot.
I'd prefer permanent and local but contracting and far away = paying the bills till i can find something. Sitting at home keeping looking for a job = no money to pay the mortgage and out in the cold.
