Driveway Stones

Folks,

I have a large stoned driveway and I need a top up of stones as there are a few bare patches and some areas are really thin.

Where do I go to get some additional stones? I'm in the Ballygowan / Saintfield / Killinchy area. I don't even know what type of stones they are and I would estimate I need a large lorry load.
Regards, Robin.

I used and can recommend Harry Keenan, Newtownards

Suggest you take a small sample with you and call in to his premises. he then can deliver you a lorry load

    Thank you!

Any idea how much a lorry load is lieu to cost? Even a ball park figure? It doesn't look like anything fancy, just grey gravel pieces.
    Regards, Robin.

Sorry no idea as I wasn't paying, I was collecting for a neighbour with my trailer.

I suspect delivery will up the cost, gravel is not expensive maybe £20- £30 a ton??

    Give him a ring Monday

  • I think we had 20 ton...a huge lorry and it was about £200...loose delivered...like a mountain of driveway gravel. Might be worth your while to go to the likes of JP Corry...just to see what types of gravel looks like so you can enquire elsewhere. There are different sizes and I just have the bog standard black...each 'bit' about the size of a coke can ring pull!! if that's any help to you :)

Thanks- what area did this cover and to what depth? Trying to work out what amount I would need. Not sure if they do it by weight or volume?

Have you tried Carryduff Building Supplies? They do a great range in bags or bulk. They will also advise on the coverage. Like everything else though.......price around!

You measure the length and width of your drive and they will work it out

You need to be home with some willing helpers when they deliver as it will just be tipped into piles along your drive, up to you to rake them out

We always wait till a neighbour is ordering, or we ask if anyone needs an order as it's cheaper to buy a full load then a half load

And we always buy direct from the quarry.
