Well, it looks like my life as a laydee of leisure is coming to an end...some of you may know that one of my hobbies is baking & cake decorating, and I've been offered an opportunity to work in the kitchen of a local eating pub which has an excellent reputation for its desserts & cakes. It's a big departure from my professional life as a senior PA but somethings are too good to pass up on, so at 9am tomorrow I will be up to my elbows in sugar & eggs in the industrial mixer!

  • That sounds great floss, hope you enjoy it, it sounds like a great job.

Minimised some of my crafting bits some will Be going to the charity shop and the rest will be sold online. Also minimised some paperwork and magazines half has gone into the recycling bin and the rest has been shredded and put in the compost bin. Will be using up some limp carrots and leeks wth something from the freezer for tea tonight. Mended a top as it got it caught in a door and it ripped slightly.

  • Hello,

I hope it's ok to pop in and ask a question I didn't want to start a thread. I have a t-shirt and a knitted jumper (shop bought) which have holes in the underarms. The t-shirt is old and sentimental and the jumper is to but is used as a bed jumper.

What is the best way to fix the holes? I don't mind the one in the jumper so much as it is only used in winter when I need the extra layer and dosen't leave the house, but the t-shirt is warn often.

    Thanks

  • Depends how big the holes are I think and are they from wear or has a dreaded moth taken up residence in your clothes drawer.
If not too big then depending on the colour mending is easy Say its white then a needle and thread (single not double and knotted ) start at one bit of the hole and go around the edge carefully picking up the edges and gently and slowly pulling it together as you go around.Ithe hole will gradually get smaller and smaller as you keep going around it with the thread all the time very slowly pulling it together until the hole has closed. If the hole is bigger then it maybe you might have to patch it.which might be more difficult. Hope this helps a bit

    Hi everyone :hello:

Still here - both reading the thread :) and in France :( and still trying to minimise my 'junk'.

Littlefrugalcottage I too have various t-shirts that have a sentential value but are beyond being worn in private, let alone in public. I saw somewhere an idea which I'm going to do. The suggestion was to cut the logos out and sew onto something like a cushion cover. That way you preserve the memories but get rid of a stack of old t-shirts. :)

Thanks Jackie, to be honest the jumper one is probably dead and buried but I will defiantly have a go at the t-shirt!

Thanks Deborah, I've seen them around I think one day I will probably make a blanket as it seems like my thing, plus I can embroider on all the memories for when I forget. I just was trying to save having more "stuff" in the house :)

I made my dd2 a throw from loads of her old tshirts, she now has a warm useful throw rather than two binbags full of old tatty tshirts she couldn't wear but didn't want to bin.

  • Hiya All

Well last week's meal went very well. spent again on Friday on little gem lettuce;cucumber; tomatoes; eggs; milk and some beef. All under £10.

This week my ex is coming round for lunch. It is good that we are now friends - just have to steer the conversation away from the past!! Now that he is not drinking and his Mum is no longer alive (poor, disappointed, angry little woman - it made her very bitter and vendictive - but on the other hand she did love my boys very much in her own funny way!) Anyway he is still a very good cook and likes his food - so am aiming for a lamb and apricot tagine cuscus and salad. Struggling a bit with pudding as he is borderline diabetic (type 2 and trying to not go on tablets by watching his diet) but thought crackers and cheese and fruit/olives/tomatoes??? Any other suggestions, dear friends?? :A

Make do: apart from fresh stuff shop eating from stores - some YS chicken pie tonight and previously ham and leeks in a cream sauce over pasta - so not starving :-) Also not running heating in rooms where I am not! Also when treating myself to a trip out (see Minimising below) am taking sandwiches/pasta and tuna salad and thermos flask of tea!!

Minimising: Pile of paperwork from when I was away - slowly getting lots of admin chores done - hate paperwork so am doing it an hour a day and then rewarding myself with a trip out somewhere beautiful!! (St Micheal's Mount yesterday for example)

Mend: pair of socks - thinks meself needs to buy some more I was tut-tuting to myself about how many of them were mended and then realised that I hadn't bought any news ones for about 3 years LOL!!! :rotfl:

Jackie O - soda bread recipe for soda bread will be found out for you tomorrow!

BTW that is 4/7 NSDs this week (I work Friday to Friday)

Aim to get on with Christmas cards ASAP as I need to send folks my new address - have loads that I bought in sales etc over the years and need using up! Thinking 5 a day??? What do you think?
    Nite all
Aim for Sept 17: 20/30 days to be NSDs  NSDs July 23/31 (aim 22) :j
NSDs 2015:185/330 (allowing for hols etc)
LBM: started Jan 2012 - still learning!

Morning mmmers, hope everyone is well and managing to stay warm.

Minimised sone more wool from the stash last night, knitting an elf, made do with left over leek and potato soup from weekend for tea.

Today need to mend a pair of dd3s work leggings, minimise some more magazines into recycling, and make a veggie lasagne for tea from what we've got in then Dh can make do with the left over portion for tomorrow's lunch.
