Nectar points and hotel breaks

I've got 30,000 Nectar points. I'd like to get a weekend hotel break with this. Is this feasible? Tesco's scheme seems a lot easier to navigate and find such offers.

Does anybody know what the advantage is to use Nectar points on Expedia vs paying directly?

I have been collecting Nectar points at Sainsburys for years, but never used them so I'm not familiar with the Nectar rewards scheme. I have 20000 points which corresponds to £ 100 to spend in store.
The Expedia "deal" says 2000 points can be converted to £10: to me that's exactly the same as using the points in store. Why should I limit myself in using Expedia for my holidays if there is no financial advantage?

When I redeem my points on the Tesco Clubcard rewards is because they give you 2x or 3x the nominal value.

Maybe I'm missing something obvious...

When my sister stayed at a hotel, using Tesco Rewards, she found that she would have got a better deal by buying directly from the hotel . ie She wasted her points .


Some of the holidays are the same, as discounts are based on the initial full price, which may since have been greatly reduced by the provider.

Expedia often have sales at which times hotels *can* be cheaper than booking direct so in those cases Nectar can give you a better deal booking.

You can also earn nectar points booking though Expedia - generally not large quantities but enough to warrant the effort of claiming them
