Next Gift Receipts - are Next pulling a fast one?

I returned some items to Next that I was given for Christmas, I had gift receipts, but the amount on the till came up as the sale price (i.e. half the price my sister paid for the clothes). I queried the sales staff who said "I'm not sure, this is the price coming up", I had to push for her to go to the manager. He came over, but didn't openly say "yes the credit should be for the original price," but pressed a few buttons on the till to get it to come back to the original price, and didn't show her how to do it - it felt like he was trying to hide the fact this was the policy. This happened to me during the summer sale too, I queried it at the time, but didn't push it as I wasn't sure, so only got half the value back on the gift card. What is the policy? I thought that a gift receipt meant you got the full value back either as an exchange or on a gift card. Many people won't know the original price, are Next trying to pull a fast one here???

We would highly recommend requesting a gift receipt when buying a gift in our stores, as this makes an exchange or refund really straightforward. The recipient can then return the item and have an exchange, or refund onto a Next gift card, to the value of the price paid.0 -
You should get refunded the amount you paid for the item, it would only scan through the till at the price it was being currently sold at so would have to be adjusted manually, usually but not always a manager would have to do this.
If all cashiers were able to do this it might give some of them an idea about how to commit a type of fraud, so naturally the manager may not want to explain the procedure to staff (working in a shop I know full well some members of staff cannot be trusted as much as others). It's not the only reason, but it's probably one of the bigger reasons he didn't explain the procedure.
If you know you are not being refunded the correct amount, question it always before leaving the shop.#141 - Save £3k in 2016 challenge - #141
