Can i reduce my DMP payment?

I'm in a real pickle this month!

I've had some unexpected car trouble and thus i need to find some money fast to get it fixed. The only thing i can think of is to reduce my DMP payment this month? Can i do it?

I need my car for work and i obviously need to pay my rent so the only think i can think to go on the back burner is the DMP payment.

I only started it two months ago so haven't built up much of a contigency on the car front!!

Any advice or help please??????????

Thanks :o

  • Sorry, I can't be of any help, but this is what I'm worried about as well. What if something major crops up, before there is enough in the budget to meet the costs????

Loubie - all I can suggest is contacting whoever has set up the DMP for you - perhaps ask the garage to provide an estimate for the work that's required so they can see that there's no way you'd be able to afford it out of the amount you've got allocated to car costs each month?

You should not mess around with DMP payments or you could find yourself in court with CCJs starting to appear.

You really need a realistic budget and to stick to it. Who is your DMP with?

I think you need to post your SOA to see where you are going wrong with your spending habits, especially if you are fairly new to your DMP. What is pushing you over each month?

Am I getting you mixed up with someone or are you the person who was struggling at the beginning of your DMP without car costs - apologies if that is not you.

I'm coping with my budget fine really! I'm with payplan. It's just I haven't built up my misc. savings (eg car, mot etc) enough to cope with any kind of mishap with my car yet! I've only been with payplan for 2 months!

    hi all
since starting our dmp in June we have had a few things crop up and i think at start of plan it is difficult getting use to budget etc.
When my car exhaust went wrong i waited a week or so and tried to manage without it until i got paid. I have been without a working oven for about 4 weeks now (looking at about £140 for a built in electric one) I know what you mean if say you only have £20 aside for emergencies etc) it takes ages to save up a reasonable amount. And getting use to life without the credit card is a shock to system.
One thing you might be able to do is cut back a little in every area of the budget if you can that is or maybe sell stuff on ebay or have car boot sale etc.
I would ring who your dmp is with and see what they suggest to you about this.

    take care
    bye for now.
  • Who is your dmp with. I spoke to cccs today, and they told me that if I am having difficulty as long as I tell them by 10th of the month, they may be able to sort something out. HTH.
