HMRC - how to complain?

And Jimmo didn't say it was the tax code, but it is part of the tax coding info that HMRC send to a new employer. Which includes tax code (ok) tax paid year to date (ok) income year to date (very much NOT ok). A month one code for someone who is normally employed all year will not be disadvantaged unless they have an overlap month (not the case here). This has gone wrong because when HMRC has issued a correct annual tax code (instead of a month 1 one) they have also issued an INCORRECT year to date income..
If they employed anyone to answer the phones that know what they are doing (they seem to very early in the am) they would be going under their breath something like 'Oh s*** someone has screwed up how fast can I get this put right before the caller makes a complaint' Rather than fobbing them off!0 -

The call centre staff have very little control over anything they can do. Too much is based on the computer systems or sending to another office to deal with. It's not always a case of whether they know what they are doing but what they can actually do.
They get beyond frustrated when they they know they can fix something but their are not allowed to/don't have the access too. But yet they are the ones that constantly get slagged off on this site rather than those above who actually make those decisions.0 -
I phone HMRC and asked them where this figure has come from and they said that the computer misinterpreted what was input (sounds like hogwash) and they will send something to my employer some time in the new year to correct the figure and I'll get my money back.
I wonder if the figure provided represents the current YTD (including the salary so far from this employment ) rather than the YTD that was on the original P45 from July ?
Agree that HMRC should be doing more to sort this out as a matter of urgency though - to my mind it's simply unacceptable to leave the OP this short in error.0 -

But how do we know that they aren't? The OP said that it will be sorted in the new year. So yes it won't be done today because they are closed but some offices will be reopened tomorrow so it might be done then or on Monday.
It wouldn't resolve itself until the next payroll run at least anyway and HMRC cannot control that.0 -

GlasweJen might like to contribute to the above thread started by dori2o- it would seem that she could suggest a number of improvements.0 -

Because it's probably better to talk to someone who can answer the question.0 -
While I have also had frustrations with HMRC, I will say that when I needed to complain the person I spoke to was excellent; gave me a direct number to call and got the problem sorted within the week.0
