    Hi MMF007

Thanks for the advice. I've had the sample chapters sent from both her books to my ipad, I'll have a look at them later. I've been reading the thread and have decided to start with a category eg clothes. I'm tempted to do a drawer/cupboard at a time but I really do think the category way will help me decide 'what to keep'. I think I need to see it all in front of me to realise just how much I have of some things.

I'm making a start this evening with my clothes and hope to get my wardrobe and drawers finished this weekend :D Hoping to have some things to sell to help the debt free journey too :)

Egg cups - we have 2. One is a footballer in DH's team colours, complete with a matching bobble hat! The other is totally plain and i use it to seperate egg yolks when I'm cooking. I hate boiled eggs.

Recently bought a jam funnel after managing without for years. I love it.
I have made an effort to keep kitchen equipment to a minimum.
We have 3 pans, 2 casserole dishes (one doubles as jam making pan), 2 frying pans and an omlette pan.
    One set of crockery.
    One set of cutlery.
4 matching mugs for guests and 3 larger mugs we use every day.
    One measuring jug,
    One mixing bowl,
    Scales,
    Remoska,
    3 kitchen knives
    1 x scissors
    a stick blender / whisk
    2 flan dishes
    A lasagne dish
    6 ramekin dishes
    5 baking tins, assorted
    One pot of utensils
    a Jam funnel !
a fruit bowl and a veg rack
    a very pretty tea caddy
    a mug tree
a microwave oven that gets a fair bit of use
    toaster
    kettle
    a butter dish
    teapot
    Milk jug
    And
    an under-used cafetiere

    And that's it.

Sounds a lot but looking at my mum's kitchen I don't think we have that much!

ETA - good plan, 12months, enjoy!!

:) There are no tower blocks with cladding in my city, Fen1, thank gawd, and I am on the ground floor. All flats have hard-wired smoke alarms,* fire-doors, landings-to-stairwells have firedoors too. The fire alarms are incredibly piercing and the sound travels for a good 50 meters, even through walls and ceilings. If you accidentally set off your smoke alarm, you really have to stick your head out of the flat to reassure neighbours who're sticking their head out of theirs that it's just a burnt pan or something of that nature.

    * in event of a powercut these default to a battery.

The council also has its consumer units set to be very sensitive so that any electrical fault, either in the circuits or in the residents'own appliances, takes down the electrics and you'd have to remove the offending plug from the circuit before the trips would re-set.
Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Glad your council has some sense, GQ.

Would now -very sadly- be a good time to get a full fire drill? Make sure that everyone on each floor is responsible for everyone else on their floor ( even your "lovely" neighbours ), and know how to evacuate safely en masse. There must be physically less-able and young children that will need help in an emergency, dependent on the goodwill of their neighbours during and afterwards.

It doesn't sound a lot at all, honestly! Oh dear. I'm going to have to work a bit harder at kondoing .... making a list like that might help me, actually. Won't be able to do it for about 10 days ...

We only have one-bedroom flats here so, when kiddies come along, people get a transfer. I still can't quite get my head around the horror of it all, along with everyone else in the country, I guess. :(

Actually, Karmacat, making a list for each (or maybe just some) category/ies may really impress on me how much stuff is still in this house. Yikes!

I would love to take 2 weeks out and blitz the place but I know I have to eat the elephant one bite at a time.

My Darling MiL gave me a jam funnel years ago - I wouldn't be without it as I grow along of fruit and keep us in jam all year round. It's such a useful tool and I thank her every time it's used! We only have two eggcups. I saw them in JL years ago - they have little legs and feet with Mabel Lucie Atwell shoes on and always make me smile. I've kondoed a load of unused Tupperware but still haven't got round to putting it on Fleabay yet :(
Very glad that Shoebox Towers is safe GQ. It must be so worrying for many other people in Tower blocks

    Hi 12months
I started with the sock drawer, it's a popular starting point I think. I've never read the books, just a few Yootoob vids and this thread!
Speaking of kitchenalia, my saucepan expired over two months ago and I still have not replaced it!!! I have a large and small frying pan and it seems they are all I need...I kept the glass saucepan lid with a high lip, so if I want to boil an egg I just put it in water in the frying pan, with the lid on top to stop it rolling around. I may never replace the pan.

Clothes finished for now... I know there are some things hiding in the ironing basket, but since that's hiding behind the exercise bike, which is hiding under various komono including swimming bags, tennis rackets & at least 1 motorbike jacket (DS1's), so I think I will take the future re-emergence of the ironing basket to quickly re-visit clothes.

Everything I hung in the wardrobe has gone on the wrong way round, so I can see what I use. My black suit is too tight at the moment, but I'm going to see if it fits better when I need it. Which is basically funerals, so I hope it's a long time before its needed whether it fits me then or not.
