KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

GQ, have you cleaned out the drainage hole at the back, inside. A cotton bud works. There is likely an overflow which maybe blocked
Two new toilets are now going to be set in place. I asked him to get them as no way can I carry toilets. A lovely man. He said they have had no end of problems with syphons and dual flushes, like bulbs, they are not meant to last. I`ll have to be patient, I could tell he was very busy, he looked tired
Don`t know what I am going to do today, have no set plans and don`t want to go on the roads. Maybe a cycling session on the lanes, I don`t want to lose my momentum, I am quite enjoying my new lease of life as a granny cyclist but in fleece not lycra0 -
GQ, I hope your fridge keeps running.
Having been really disappointed in Hotpoint, after years of buying only their appliances, I have decided to avoid buying anything more from their group and did a bit of Internet research. It seems that there is no longer any guarantee of performance and no clear indication of where most machines have been made. The secret seems to be being allowed to inspect the fan (!) and avoiding built in computer chips. Both somewhat difficult.
It's a sad fact that we have allowed nearly all our maufactured household goods and most of our clothing to be manufactured thousands of miles away. Like many others, Hotpoint has an office in Peterborough, but its head office in in Italy and it's production plants are on the other side of the globe.0 -
GQ, I think I recollect that there is a switch on the bulb, I have a miele and once I knocked it so that the bulb was off. You may well get your young fridge/freezer working, in that case just quickly cancel your purchase or refuse deliveryy as is your legal right.
Also at the back, outside, there is a condensed water holder, sounds like yours has not been able to drain away, through the hole inside, which is often neglected by the masses and hence it collects in the water holder and thence overflows
Also clean all the door seals0 -
We have a Hotpoint fridge, washer & dryer, and 2 Beko tall freezers - the freezers are fab and are ok to be in a garage (they live in our "shed" which used to be the outside loo). The fridge has been ok, but it has a drainage problem, in that it drains forward not back and the feet can't adjust to allow that. It's a quirk we have come to live with, but when it needs replacing I will do some research.2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

I also went right off hotpoint and neff but they were ok in my younger days. Then I saved and went for miele and now have a tall fridge and a tall freezer side by side in my one year old kitchen. I second that beko is good, I did lots of research and beko is the only small chest freezer that would survive without damage in my separate garage. I use it for allotment overflow and manage to have it switched off for about six months of the year but not through winter. I got dh to put it on wooden lengths so that it stands off the floor, to help with air circulation. It is cleaned out now and stands with the lid open and a cloth over it0

I was glad to see GQ worked out a "cost per use" I did wonder if I had been "overthinking" but lately I have been questioning the same of some of my household goods. I'm debt busting and building an rdf, and have been thinking "but what if x needed replacing?" And from that, was it good value?
Since konmarie I have been looking at clothes in a different way - I'm buying smarter, but also thinking of resale value (as plus size clothes do well on the bay). I think I'm also less keen to buy "cheap bits" such as PJs, leggings, face masks, nice pens, all manner of "stuff". Before I would think "it's just a few quid" whereas now, I think all of those little bits, £5, £3, being equal to a couple of months worth of a new washing machine?!
I think in the past I failed to think beyond my bills being paid and what was left was "spends" whereas now I think "this is MY money and I need to maintain a certain standard of living for myself (including an RDF so I can replace any broken item easily and without stress). Also, not wanting more clutter to creep in helps too!Jan 20 - NST challenge

I think you pays your money and hopes for the best. I had to have new appliances when the kitchen was renewed, I bought the branded ones that were on offer at the time. Sometimes you win, sometimes you lose.
I hope your fridge pulls through GQ, it's the sheer effort of going to buy one that I don't like.
It's now raining so can't work outside - the undies drawer had better watch out, I'm on my way!0 -
Silvasaver - We found out the other day that tow ropes are no longer legal - you have to use a tow pole. Guess how we found out
On the upside our illegal tow saved us over £100Debts 07/12/2021

I would check the drain hole as well GQ, we have had trouble with ours too, and it was the drainage0

After reading the book a while ago, but not really getting in to the wing of it, I have to say that even though I haven't done it properly, it has really helped with decluttering. Before I would think "I can't bin/donate that as it cost £xx. Now I just think "oh well, I enjoyed looking at it or wearing it for that one, fab night out" and get rid.
I also think twice before buying anything new. I'm also holding out or saving for the actual item that I want rather than 'making do' with a cheaper or inferior version that I hate.Illegitimi non carborundum.0
