KonMari 2016 - The Life Changing Magic of Tidying Up

So a few weeks ago I had visitors, and while it's now much quicker to get the spare room ready, once again I had to remove various bags of komono from the spare bed. I swore last time that I'd never find myself doing it again, so this time I dumped it all on the floor in my bedroom on the basis that it would annoy me so much, I'd have to sort it out.
Fast forward several weeks :rotfl: - it is seriously annoying me but I haven't tackled it yet. This morning I put them all on the bed, and the clear floor looks great - I want my bedroom back!
Most of the stuff is craft UFOs, a bit of a weakness of mine. I find them so hard to deal with because I've invested time in them (and sometimes money, too). I'm promising myself that I won't start any new projects till I've sorted these. I think I'll list them all in my bullet journal and maybe that will help me to be realistic. How do others deal with UFOs, or are you all so good that you don't have any?Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Kindness in another’s trouble, courage in your own.0 -
Do you actually want to finish them PWD? Or is it the idea, and getting started that you enjoy?0

Ahhh, UFO! I suddenly have a few - since starting art classes!! I don't like having a half finished picture but not enough time in class and although i have admitted defeat on 2 of them, I still have 3 pieces i would like to finish.
This week we drew a portrait (amazingly mine actually looked like a person) and next week we are due to paint a version of this. I am not struck on the picture we are referring to, nor on the technique planned for next week. I have decided that i will miss next week's class but will actually get one of my WIPs out and work on that. I will have 3 hours 'free' and no travelling, and i think i will benefit from the quiet concentration kn a subject that DOES appeal
I do enjoy painting, but i am not a natural! I want to improve though, so I am willing to practice
Other than that i just have 2 unfinished items of needlework and now you have mentioned it, i should get these out, too. They would make nice projects for the evenings when we have a week away in june.
Vicarious kondo-ing only today. An elderly friend ear-marked a couple of large items to release but had no means to get rid. I offered to take them for possible redistribution, with her agreement, or CS if no takers.I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
I now understand the difference between Freecycle and Freegle, many thanks. I know GQ mentioned Freegle a lot but wasn't sure if it was just something specific to her neck of the woods.
Will do some researchIt doesn't matter if you are a glass half full or half empty sort of person. Keep it topped up! Cheers!0 -
MMF007 do you prefer still life or landscape to portrait then? I think I could do landscape, but definitely not portrait, I have tons of admiration for you!2021 Decluttering Awards: ⭐⭐🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇🥇 2022 Decluttering Awards: 🥇

Well Floss, still life has yet to be tried, but I did a painting of water lillies in a lovely pale blue pond that may best be described as abstract realism! I also enjoyed painting rows of tulips with a lovely forest behind. I know it is the colours that appeal to me and hence acrylics are 'my thing'.
Shame my natural talent is, er, well hidden! Perhaps I will find a style that brings out the best in me
ETA - the secret to drawing a person or a face is to turn the picture upside down and draw it that way. When you turn your drawing the right way up it's amazing! Doesn't work as well for self-portraits though :rotfl:I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0 -
Greenbee, that's a good question- I recognise that I'm always really excited about starting a new project and not always as good at seeing it through. I'm having to stop myself from buying new materials at the moment till I've finished some current stuff.
I have completed quite a few things recently, and on my first round of MK I bravely ditched a half-completed wall hanging that I'd started on a one-day class, because I knew I would never want to hang it anywhere. (I only did the class to keep my sister company) That took some strength of will on my part!Life is mainly froth and bubble: two things stand like stone. Will do some researchWe have freegle here but not freecycle. I don't know if we ever had a freecycle group, for all the several years I've been using it, it's been freegle. My understanding is that, back in the day, UK freecycle vols had a spat with US Freecycle rule makers and decided to go off and do their own thing.
Back in the homestead and have brought a few things for my fave chazzer which will prolly leave today (I'm on leave this week and next) and will do a few other things including - waitforit- spending this morning at the very-reasonably-priced-antiquish emporium.
I dropped in on the pal on my way down from the bus station and got a bit of an SOS regarding paperwork build-up - he's a clever chap but curiously helpless when faced with things in envelopes. I shall go kondo the in-tray and perhaps venture into some other nooks and crannies, whatever I can do in a couple of hours.
Then off to the lottie to plant some seeds, definately leeks and beetroot, possibly also parsnips depending on the wind-speed (veggie gardeners will understand that last bit, lol).
Oh, and when Dad gave me a lift to the bus station in the hometown, he also took a large bag of donations to his gift-aid registered chazzer, so the stuff is thinning out ever-so-slightly. And there is rumours of a dump-run going to happen at their end in the near future (shed stuff).Every increased possession loads us with a new weariness.

Off to the Hospice shop this morning with the 8 bags of clothing left from our sale. I've only got a small 2 seater car so some is on the passenger seat - looks like I'm a mass murderer with all these black bin bags!
Laughing at all the items that DH's and Oh cling on to. Mine finally decided his abseiling gear could go last year (he's nearly 74!) I think it's holding on to lost youth - the rope made really good mooring ropes for my boat lol! The diving gear and the archery equipment went some years ago - now he's got the trike to play with .......sighSmall victories - sometimes they are all you can hope for but sometimes they are all you need - be kinder than necessary, for everyone you meet is fighting some kind of battle0 -
feeling loads better! Have kondo-packed and will be off shortly for our 5 day break with friends in hereford/worcester area.
DH just got a call from other party's insurer to say they'll pay for repair and provide a vehicle while it is being done. DH told them he can do it if they pay for part, no need for van to be off the road. Everyone happy!I have changed my work-life balance to a life-work balance.0
