Ridiculous...But funny nevertheless

Thought I would share this one.

I am working as an apprentice and ended up with a glut of untaken holiday, the whole month of December, and as it is a "use it or lose it" with no carry over or payment in lieu, I took the holiday time.

I decided to sign up with some agencies and get some casual work or the month just to earn a little extra and stop me getting bored (I tend to spend money when I get bored).

Here's where I met a hurdle. National insurance number proof. I misplaced my NI card when I started my apprenticeship, and they would not accept a wage slip as proof.

So I went into the local job centre only to be told that they could not help me because I am not signing on!! The guy looked at my identification, birth certificate, driving license and passport, was able to confirm that I am who I say I am, yet could not print out a simple "I can confirm xxx NI number is xxx" He even admitted that they could if I was signing on, but could not help me as I am already in employment.

Sucks to want a second job.

The mistake you made was thinking that a job centre was there to help anyone, that hasn't been the case for years. What you need is a small help to buy ISA then all you need to do is pop along to the bank with your debit card and ask them about your ISA - followed by a can you print that off for me please.

Do you have an HMRC coding letter?

    I guess no P45 or P60 yet.

    Some places accept payslips

Maybe they just did not want you as they knew you had another job.
  • And you want to be careful about working for other companies when you are supposed to be on holiday for one particular company.

I used to know a lady who lived near me. She asked me a few questions and told me my NI number. She was 1 digit out on one of them but still pretty impressive. She got my mums spot on.

Not relevent to the post in the slightest but I thought I would share.
