Did you tell him/her at the time you weren't satisfied with the diagnosis and ask for further explanation?

Your £180 pays for the consultants time and hospital fees it is in line with what most will charge privately.
Unfortunately if you are not happy with his diagnosis that fee is still payable, it is not dependant on results it is paying for the time and expertise.

Yes I did say I wasn't happy and he told me if I was still experiencing pain to go back and have scans... scans that would not tell me anything to do with the condition I have. I was in there 10 minutes not the half hour I was expecting

How do you know the scans wouldn't tell you anything to do with your condition? Have you now had a diagnosis from the NHS that disagrees with what he said?

To be honest I don't think trying to quibble the bill a month after the event is going to get you very far unless you now have clear evidence his diagnosis was incompetent.

There are no tests for fibromyalgia but blood tests and X rays are taken to exclude other conditions which have similar symptoms or which may be present at the same time as fibromyalgia. This is probably what the rheumatologist is going to do.

You have had the appointment, you have chosen not to undergo some of the tests , but you have followed some of the advice given, although to little effect.

You do not pay for a consultation on the basis of results. You pay to attend a consultant and hear their opinion. Sometimes you will see a consultant to be told there is nothing they can do. You will still have to pay for the consultation.

You are not medically trained yet you seem to believe you know better than a specialist. Fibromyalgia is often a diagnosis given once everything else has been ruled out, most of which are though blood test. Your consultant was therefore right to look at eliminating all other possible causes.

I am not a medical expert myself either, although have some experience, but I have to say that if any GP has given you a definite diagnosis of Fibromyalgia without any blood tests to rule out other things, then it is their aptitude I would question.

In any case, you are not in a position to decide that the consultant didn't do a good job just because he didn't tell you what you wanted to hear. You will be expect to pay.

I'd be very disappointed as well - 10 minutes isn't long enough to take a proper medical history - but I don't think you'll get out of paying the full fee.
