When did 'Campbells Meatballs' become 'Fray Bentos meatballs'?

Just opened a tin and noticed the name change.

Premier Foods bought out Campbells in 2006 and got a bunch of brands in the deal, including OXO, Batchelors, Homepride and Fray Bentos.

They seem to have done a bit of brand realignment as Campbells now seems to focus on condensed soups and Fray Bentos does meat products.

They probably come from the same factory as before, just in different packaging.

I wouldn't be too sure about them being made in the same factory, one of my good friends worked for Campbells, now Premier, they have moved lot's of production lines around, sent some abroad etc.

  • Just as an aside, what was the original name for tine-brand?
  • I didn't know about this, but I must say that I haven't had a Fray Bentos pie for years, had one the other day & it was vile, I just thought my taste buds had changed over the years!! I used to love them
