Hi everyone, hope you all had a fantastic Christmas!
Today I had a really pleasant surprise in work. I was working Christmas Day and this was the first day back since then, I sat in the morning with everyone and got a tap on my shoulder after about 30 minutes from one of my colleagues from Resources to say I wasn't even meant to be in this morning! So I got to go homelol
Started my new diary and I'm now looking forward to tackling my debts this coming year

Hi All
Just back from a lovely day out. Resisted a fabulous new bed, 50% off. A real bargain, but resisted, feeling smug, had lunch Bought DD 21st birthday card. Felt even smugger. This is easy I thought!
Went to Aldi to buy a loaf as Mr T coming tomorrow, bought:
Aran wool for peoples children sweaters £30
Booze and food for DD 21st, we honestly had enough anyway £80
Food £50, stuff for beef stew for DS tomorrow, that loaf and some milk and office stuff, lunches etc!
The most expensive loaf in the UK I think! Can anyone beat me??
I am drinking my tea and hanging my head in shame. That serves me right for feeling smug. NO MORE SMUG for me.
I am obviously a grocery addict. Now to make the beef stew which I think I will turn into a beef pie to make it more fattening. Will also peel potatoes for tomorrow. No longer feel smug, May never feel smug again.
Ho hum.

Ohhhh thanks for the reminder! I must put stickers on the calander for my rubbish collections (we've gone from having all on the same day to some being weekly, some fortnightly and all on different days!)
Having a reasonably good day but a couple of hiccups!rising_from_the_ashes wrote: »Plans for today:- Banking - transfer money to bills account to cover all d/debits (I was paid ridiculously early in Dec but have pretended it didn't happen & left the money where it was until today!) done

Hello Festive Frugalistas,
Busy productive day on the money-saving front. And here is the evidence:
*Washed guest bed linen overnight on cheap tariff & managed to get it semi-dry outside on line. Will finish off overnight on heated airer & set timer for another cheap wash too.
*Rubber Turkey Part II - the Return. The stock I made yesterday had set into a lovely fragrant jelly. Skimmed the fat off & used the stock to make my annual turkey chilli & some turkey soup. Am pleased with the rubber qualities of this turkey. We paid £37 for it. Could have had a cheaper one but I like a free-range one. Have worked out that it did 26 portions (4 Christmas dinners, 4 cold Boxing Day dinners, 2 turkey supreme, 7 turkey chilli, 4 turkey soup & 5 servings of turkey, stuffing & cranberry sauce sandwiches). Also one carton of stock to freeze & 3 dinners for cat.
*Read meters & uploaded readings online.
*LSD - mr f popped out for very small grocery shop. His pronouncement on the post-Christmas YS section was that it was cr*p so he wasn't tempted! Did come home with 2 free cappucinos & a Guardian, though, courtesy of Waitrose loyalty cards & he also got the carrots we needed reduced to 29p.
*Big Budget Day. Started by hurling my calculator into the bin. Added up the same column of figures 3 times, while checking each new number had been input correctly. 3 results: £1849-67, £772-17 &, £885-71. Completely random! Used the calculator on my phone & triple-checked the answer which was actually £885-71. Think calculator may have sustained internal injuries when I knocked it off the kitchen dresser while I was waving a bunch of rhubarb around. Anyway, I digress.......December's budget was overspent but pointless fretting over that now. We didn't go overdrawn. All bills went out correctly.
*Set January's budget. Have left a bigger buffer than usual as hope to get some tree work done this month & don't know yet how much it will cost or when it will actually take place.
*Paid our Savings Piggies. Halved Clothes Piggy payment as neither of us needs much at the moment.
*Paid both credit cards in full. Bit of an 'ouch' moment, but psychologically it felt important as it means that extra spending that took place around Christmas is fully paid for by the end of December, not hanging on into 2016 like my debts used to in the past, with that horrible feeling every time I used to use my cards or cashpoint that my cards would be refused. never again, I hope!
*Reduced grocery budget to £200 for Jan. We overspent in December & have plenty of food in stock. Have noted the days we intend to shop based on my meal planning cycle & we have 4 shops. Deducted what we spent this morning & that leaves £47 a week for groceries. That should be fine.
*Checked for 3 rebates we are owed. One had come - my Orange rebate from cancelling my contract. Still waiting for same for mr f, plus my goodwill payment from energy supplier.
*Did a few supermarket feedback prize draws. Time I won one of those.
*Leftovers for lunch. Still eating mr f's cheese mountain.
*Pulled the last couple of leeks & a few turnips plus parsley from the veggie garden.
*Upstairs storage heaters turned back down a notch now that our guests have gone home. No downstairs heating on yet. It's just been too warm.
*Paid the £20 Car donation from Mum into Car Fund, so will update signature as it does help me to see it creeping up.
*Being very tough on cat who is appalled that turkey isn't going to be his regular food after all. He can remain on hunger strike longer than any other cat I've owned. The perfectly good cat food in his bowl is not going to be changed though. It's a case of eat it or go & catch something different which requires effort on his part!
*Free leisure for the rest of the day - read library book, watch recorded TV series, maybe knit some more of my purple socks.
I can't tell you how committed to money saving I feel as we go into a new year. City Centre trip tomorrow for the sales. Have got all relevant vouchers/gift cards in my purse ready & will be packing a sandwich, star biscuits & a mince pie for each of us so we only need to buy a coffee. I've been shocking in the Sales in the Spendy Decades. Tomorrow, my rule is that if I don't need it & it doesn't make me feel totally gorgeous, I shan't be buying it! (As nothing is going to do that at the moment with all the festive podge adhering to my waist, I think my money will be safe!)
Have a nice night all,

Morning everyone :hello:
Up early as small was awake and wanted to come down. Hope everyone is ok and enjoying the festive break. Just a small list from me:
Portion rest of pork and freeze
Go for a run
Girls to a party, present and card already done and wrapped
Maybe take tree down, to try and get some sense of normality back to proceedings
Go through loads of Christmas cars from previous years and recycle any that can't be made in to tags
Meals from stores, may make some broccoli and Stilton soup
More knitting
Early night, need to catch up on some sleep whilst I'm off
Think that's all for now, will check back later, Jonno
Didn't manage run as feeling a bit off and had clingy small who was feeling the same I think.
Got boxes down to do tree and decs soon and sorted all food in fridge and moved portioned pork to freezer plus last of new pots
2 purchases from sales came, one amazing (clippers for DH at barginous price - others were about 3 years past their best :rotfl:) a few clothes for DD and some new socks for me. How rock and roll - I pair going back as I don't like them. Like foxgloves my sakes spending is much changed
Enjoy your evening.0 -
Jonno - Well, that makes two of us then, re sales spending. One day, when I'm feeling like it, I will maybe have to post on here a little account of how I used to tackle the January Sales pre-LBM! I don't think anyone on here who has read my posts over the last 2 or 3 years would think it was the same person!

Evening Gang,
Thanks to Jonno for starting the thread
Hope everyone is ok, hugs to those that need them….hello to new posters
Today I have/will:
• Dinner from stores
• Hubby treated me to breakfast out, and we didn’t fancy lunch – the final part of our anniversary celebrations
• Checked online banking – no real point as there have been no transactions
• Checked investment – because of the bank holidays, there has been no movement – it’ll sort itself out in the next week or so
• Worked on my budget – multi-coloured spreadsheets which show that I could be debt free by the end of next year if I knuckle down
• Need to make lunch for tomorrow – there is no canteen at work, so I have no other option (work normally buy lunch in, but I am a bit funny about eating in front of people)
• I need to text/fb message WW leader to see if she needs my help tomorrow (although I have moved meetings, she may still need me to set up/pack away)
• Read papers online
• Have an early night as I need to be in work early tomorrow – I need to write up some procedures to hand over to the temp who will be replacing me
• Need to prepare myself for the new year clear out – will be ebaying a load of ‘stuff’
• Had a lovely 20 min shower (yes, I know it is not eco friendly, but it is a must in a hotel)
• Put away the cinema vouchers we did not use yesterday – we decided it was a bit too late after our drink to go and see a film and there was nothing which was worth watching (something we would both want to see)
Think that is about it, love to you all – you keep me sane!
