    I opened the tin, it didn't explode (bonus), tastes quite dark and bitter..is this normal? No fizzing or furring.

  • Everybody died back then. If you can find anybody alive that was born before 1890 to disprove what I say ..... then I'll admit I might be wrong.

    if its proper treacle then yes, it will be very dark and the bitterness disappears on cooking. its 'golden syrup' which is honey coloured and very sweet. but its often referred to as 'treacle' (treacle tart for example) which can be confusing!
