We r travelling from Calais to Toulouse area..what to visit on route?

As ferry seems to be cheaper from Calais I was thinking of going via Versailles castle to visit unless anyone know better options to break up trip and visit en route.also what is cheapest ticket if we did visit Versailles? Any tips? Thank u
