Anyone else getting a picture of Victor Meldrew in their head? :D
Victor Meldrew, while intemperate and angry, was usually mostly rational and coherent with it, it's another role model that springs to my mind!

ooops, yuppers, that is correct. Got my Lloyds figures wrong even though I have the accounts at 4% :)

Yes - so averaging just a little bit under 4.5%. So while not 5% entirely, given that inflation is hovering around 0.5% its still a nice little earner!!!

If Cardew can wrangle his finances to get as much of the £10k on 0% credit cards then he can be whizzing away in the new wheels, while most of his money carries on getting interest and he benefits from the 0%. Winner both ways!! :D

A 'no risk' 5% or 6% on an amount sufficient to buy a new car? £10k +

    Where please.

I've got over £10k at 5%. Nationwide and TSB.
Nothing new, had the accounts for over 2 years.
Remember the saying: if it looks too good to be true it almost certainly is.

So true, but [STRIKE]Cardew[/STRIKE] Hadrian would probably be much too busy with being very angry and drafting letters to CEOs about nerves.

Cardew is not the original poster referring to the letters to CEO. See his later post asking where it was possible to get 5%

Hadrian is the one getting frothy at the mouth with Santander!!!

OMG, embarrassing, embarrassing, embarrassing as the shadow chancellor would say. Not that I have anything else in common with him, but I do sincerely and unreservedly apologise to Cardew for stupidly confusing them with the OP. :o:o:o

I think you must be out of touch also.

Lloyds 5% up to £5000. Nationwide 5% up to £2,500 (for a year). TSB 5% up to £2,000.

Thats pretty much your £10k. If you have a partner you can triple up on all of these and get near £30k at 5%. With the £1,000 tax free allowance from April you don't need to worry about tax either.

Money covered up to £75k so no risk.

Not sure how you can't have been aware of all this - unless I'm misreading your post.

I like to think I am not out of touch.

I have two Santander 123 current accounts(which gives 3% for up to £20k - albeit for an increased fee in Jan), ditto wife.

To get the Nationwide/Lloyds/TSB you have to make them your main current account I believe.

    Your understanding is wrong. :)

And you're missing out on at least £28.5K of your cash making half as much interest again as it is in Santander (c4.5% vs 3%)...so that's around £430 or so extra in the first year.

    And it gets better...

All 3 of those providers have regular savers available, meaning an extra £1,150 of your 3% Santander cash can be fed into these 4-5% accounts each month...with the same increase in return.

    Merry Xmas! ;)

Sorry but a bit of a silly rant.
