  • Just a note: we're just about to enter the 'christmas market' period.. new Ipods are announced shortly, Creative has a few new products (hoping for a replacement for the Zen Vision M.

Check out the new 'Creative Zen' - it's pretty damn nice:

  • I have the 60GB model. It sounds fantastic (although I've never tried the earphones that came with it) and plays DivX video very well.

For me it's spoiled by the fact that you have to browse by album or artist, and the player gets this info from the tags embedded in the MP3s themselves.

You can't just browse music by file name and folder. This won't be an issue for those who listen only to pop/rock music, and have a meticulously tagged music collection.

It's annoying for me because I have a collection of classical music, where the artist name could be the composer, conductor, soloist or orchestra, and where there are many many tracks with similar or identical titles (eg 'Symphony No. 3' or 'Allegro Moderato'). Finding what I want would be easy if I could only do it by folder, as I do on my PC and on my car MP3 CD player.

For what it's worth, I don't think these issues are confined to this player. They don't affect 95 per cent of users so there's no incentive to change them.

An annoyance that affects everyone is that you don't get a mains charger and the official Creative one costs a small fortune. You can charge it through the USB data cable but that takes about five hours if the battery is empty.
