They let women run countries?! I thought that experiment stopped with Lady Thatcher.
Mitchell and Webb advised us to never try to remember the Event.. It may cause distress. It remains in the past. Let's keep it that way.;)There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
A magazine based in the Square Mile did a survey of 'Why were you sacked?'. The best answer had to be the bloke that used the company's servers to run a gentleman's website from.
The country was a democracy of a sort for a time in the 70s before becoming very much not a democracy.
I think back then there were very few democracies outside Europe. Africa only had Botswana.
I think South America only had Venezuela. They were the only country in the world to incorporate lateral thinking into their school curriculum. I think they got Tony Buzan in to advise them. I expect it's not them, but if it was I'd say, that makes sense to me.There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

It depends on the year you're talking about and how you define democracy. This country definitely had at least one election in the 1970s.
Having said that, even North Korea has elections. IIRC, if you want to vote against the President you have to use a separate ballot box.0 -
Communist countries (at least, to date) aren't /weren't real democracies. they had a kind of obsession with elections, probably to differentiate themselves from fascist dictatorships, which they were absolutely determined to do.
Let's remember that Angela Merkel only got to lead Europe after being in a fake copy of a West German Party that the East Germans used to give a figleaf of legitimacy to their government. Elections mean little if there's no secrecy or variety of political parties. There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -
Paraguay......?Few people are capable of expressing with equanimity opinions which differ from the prejudices of their social environment. Most people are incapable of forming such opinions.0

Paraguay......?
So, not sure they would have been likely to have free elections in the cold war era. Most of the developing world was stuck with one-party states which were affiliated to one side or the other. Hang on, Chile had elections back in the day. Am I warm? There is no honour to be had in not knowing a thing that can be known - Danny Baker0 -

Cristina Kirchner, outgoing president, decided that she didn't like the result of the election very much and in a fit of pique decided to keep the old official presidential Twitter account.0 -

A bit like she wants the Falklands then. Seems to have form in wanting things that are not rightfully hers. Please stay safe in the sun and learn the A-E of melanoma: A = asymmetry, B = irregular borders, C= different colours, D= diameter, larger than 6mm, E = evolving, is your mole changing?
