Barclaycard Account On Hold

Hi All

I wrote to Barclaycard and asked them to suspend interest on my account as I have been unwell and had to reduce my working hours by half.

I haven't missed any payments and have paid via direct debit in accordance with their terms and conditions.

They have now sent to me a letter that states;

My account is on hold
They they will report missed payments or underpayments to the credit reference agencies
That they expect no further payments or arrears, but will record a default.

I called to ask but the call center wasn't in the uk and didn't really help.

Any ideas on what this means and what they do as its clearly a template letter.

Thanks again

  • It also states, "we wont ask you to make any payments in future", I find this very hard to believe, actually I don't believe it.

    Hi,

I would write to Barclaycard customer services asking for an explanation of the letter, in plain language.

Dealing with matters such as this on the phone won't be productive as the call handlers won't know any more than you do.

Could be an early Christmas present ? 😆

  • I think I'll do that thank you. I only wanted to stop interest to allow me to make some progress.

And the letter really does seem to be unbelievable.

BC are not known for cutting interest, it's taking me 3 years and being in a right pickle to get mine cut completely and they still haven't defaulted me, I'm almost tempted to say leave it for a month or 2 while you get back on your feet and then challenge it.

You will obviously get a reduction in your credit status, so be aware if you need to apply for anything else.

  • They stopped interest and charges on my account straight away and they have said to me as long as we pay 0.5 of the balance each month then my account will never default but I'm not sure if this is a good or a bad thing as you never know what barclaycards plans are next
Still hoping that eventually money will grow on trees then we can all live happily ever after ☺
In the mean time we are 31k worth of debt but it is coming down slowly....
  • I had a more detailed response today via email, it seems the letter was a template as I suspected.

They are saying contact them to send a SOA and in the meantime the account is on hold for 30 days.

Having said that I think the letter is very misleading or maybe it's just not worded plainly enough for me.

I have decided to pay them, because I need to apply for a mortgage this month, we will see after that's gone through what will happen next.
