in Cutting tax
Really not sure this is in the right place but I couldn't see anywhere more suitable.
I've just bought an item from Germany (online), the website is a .Co. uk site and it cost just over £200 including 19% vat (German vat it seems). I've found people online who've bought from this site and say it's ok.
My question though is; having paid tax to another eu country, will I still be charged the uk's 20% or 1% or nothing?

I don't know of any circumstances other than buying alcohol or tobacco online where you'd get charged additional duties on items bought from within the EU. You have already paid tax as you say.
http://ec.europa.eu/taxation_customs/common/buying_online/buying_goods/within_eu_en.htm:
Customs duties
There are no customs duties to be paid when buying goods coming from within the European Union.
VAT
VAT is calculated as a percentage (VAT rate) of the price of the goods.
The seller will calculate VAT based on either VAT rate of the Member State from which the goods are shipped to the buyer (which is usually the Member State from which the goods are bought) or VAT rate of the Member State into which the goods are shipped.
There will be many cases when the seller will not inform you of the applicable VAT rate.
If the seller is required by the national regulation to issue an invoice, you will have the information about the VAT rate that has been applied.0 -
Thankyou, I hope you're right. Obviously, I'll have to pay tax when I collect it from the post office if not. It's no problem really except instead of saving ~£60 it'll be nearer £200

I've often purchased from amazon germany and never had an issue with paying tax - as mentioned the goods include the vat applicable in this case as you say 19%.Spelling courtesy of the whims of auto correct...
Pet Peeves.... queues, vain people and hypocrites ..not necessarily in that order.0 -
