The dreaded Christmas Twitch

Forgive me MSE, for I have sinned.
My Christmas present buying was officially finished end of November, but last night, on finishing wrapping, and realising just how small dd's piles would be this year, I got the dreaded, uncontrollable Christmas twitch :-(
I tossed and turned all night, the little cherub on my right shoulder telling me they had plenty, didn't need any more, its natural that piles get smaller as children get older. But that little devil on my left shoulder was telling me I had been mean, stingy, tight. Why had they got so little? You can afford more, you've worked hard, they deserve it...
Little devil won, and first thing this morning I dragged my tired butt into town.
Ok, so it was a very reasonable "twitch", under £40 in total, a couple of lego type sets from wilkos from dd2, and a few beauty products for dd1, plus a bottle of whisky for dh (as he finished his last weekend and has dropped numerous hints since!).
They are now wrapped, dd's have an extra 4 gifts each to open, and I feel much much better. Or I would, if I didn't feel so guilty about the fact that I have gotten right to the end of the year before breaking my 2014/2015 new years resolution - I will not spend just for the sake of spending.
Please, please tell me I'm not the only one with this twitching problem!

It's not about getting what you want, It's about wanting what you get.

Ooh me, me! I always do this. I've managed to contain it a bit this year but I'll buy a load of presents but then I'll keep buying more here and there until I run out of money. It's like I never think it's enough**Debt Free as of 15:55 on Friday 23rd March 2012**And I am staying that way

oh i've definitely done it in the past!
this year i have been very very good, stopped myself from buying "just one more thing" for DD yesterday, I'm very proud of myself at the moment (but we're going into town tomorrow, so who knows what may happen????)0 -
I do this too although this year after getting DH just one more thing I decided that I could put that aside for next year as his pile is big enough!0

Given the chance, I will buy and buy until the big day. No self control, whatsoever!0

I too am guilty of this. Its like a christmas tradition! I havent been as bad as previous years. I have just been HB with my kids to buy sweets for the panto and bought my mum a bottle of perfume and a box of chocs. lol xx No more shopping for me now, Im not buying another thing except veg lol0

Haha not just me then! I have stayed pretty strong this year though and only added a small item from lidl to OHs pile. Even the amazon prime trial didn't break me!0

That's it. The cars are in the garage, and staying there until after Xmas day. Been and done my big food shop this morning, almost had a major twitch moment with a reduced Minecraft Lego set, but the force was strong, and I left it on the shelf.
The only things I left with which weren't on the list were a selection box each for dd's, and a speciality beer for fil! It's not about getting what you want, It's about wanting what you get.0 -
£40 for a bottle of whisky and 8 Christmas presents is pretty good going, sounds like you found some bargains there which is a moneysaving achievement in itself!
I've managed to resist buying any extra presents this year but have been panic buying more food than I'm ever going to eat. I'll just pop in to Tesco's and suddenly have a fit of worry that I haven't got enough luxury biscuits and Christmas will be ruined :rotfl:0 -
Deep down, I envy you who have piles of presents to buy. I've only bought for mother and sister in law, two nieces, their husband/partner, two grand nieces and one grand nephew, one present each. No present for son and daughter in law. (Our son says keep the money as it's so expensive to post anything. I used to put money in his UK account but he said to keep it, not unkindly.). Our daughter in law is Chinese Australian and the culture is to give the other way round, to elders. Our son has sent us Snuggles, I know because he asked if I thought Dad would use one and I said it would be lovely on the boating holidays and I'd love one too! These are sort of fleeces with arms.
Two years ago it was different as we were spending time with them in Melbourne. I had gifts for all the family and daughter in law's larger family. It was so much fun, though I did have to wrap on arrival!
I say, as long as the presents are given with love and the budget isn't broken, let's have lots of lovely pressies!“And all shall be well. And all shall be well. And all manner of things shall be exceeding well.”

In other words, Don't Panic!0 -
I think I'd put money I would have spent on presents into the "Lets go back to Melbourne" fund LisaI Would Rather Climb A Mountain Than Crawl Into A Hole
