Xmas break probs

We were told that we would be closing for the three days between xmas and New year some had the three days booked as their holiday the rest of us have worked the 24 hours in OT to cover it, today they called a meeting saying that more than likely the three days off would be cancelled as they were behind with the figures and proceeded to threaten anyone that didnt come in and didnt have it booked with disaplinary action, they said the OT worked would be paid instead . However we did it so we could have the time off and the best part of it those who have it booked as holiday never did any overtime to help out. After we did these hours in good faith etc can they then threaten us or instigate any action.

Do you have a written agreement saying that if you work overtime you are promised these three days off? If not it doesn't matter what you think you had a promise of. You didn't. So if you do not attend work you are absent without permission. An offence that can result in dismissal.0

What they going to do sack everyone?
How many people involved, if enough and you stick together room to negotiate.0 -
Whilst I appreciate it sucks, the company will pay the overtime so effectively you haven't lost out.
When will they let you know for definite?0 -
If I was in your position i would be happy that I'm getting paid the overtime. I would never work overtime to cover days off because at my workplace overtime is paid at time and a half. So it's better to be paid for overtime and take time off as holiday unpaid because then you get more money for the same hours!.
I don't think it's an unfair situation because those people have made sure they had enough holiday so they got the time off. I'm assuming you could have done the same.0 -
Are you saying that the ones who have booked it as holiday are still allowed to take those holidays?
In that case I can understand your frustration as clearly it was agreed that the time off could be taken in lieu of overtime instead of payment for those who preferred to do it that way.
Having said that, there's little you can do from a legal standpoint and you will be getting paid and have already had the time off that the others have saved. I would try to appeal to their better natures by seeing if a rota of some sort can be drawn up - trying to come up with solutions will work better than everyone just getting worked up and ultimately ending up coming in anyway.
You could ask if the situation is that serious why persons who have booked holidays are not being asked to contribute in some way also.
You may have to suck it up on this occasion - try and just grin and bear it but remember for next year to put hols in instead.0 -
Why didn't they have everyone doing more overtime as soon as they knew they were behind?
You have to question is this down to incompetence or planned all along?
How much overtime is being done this week?0 -
Sadly we are only paid single time for OT today i had a meeting with the manager asking why werent those who had it booked as holiday not asked to do overtime therefore easing the burden of us that now have to work the period , they agreed to a point yet said it was to late to do anything about it now. The few of us that have done the OT feel well and truly stitched up end of the day i did it so i could have time off and not for the money. Best part of it i feel pretty fed up with this situation and then to make it even worse i discover two people who have the time booked off have been given the next two days as well even thou they had no holiday left yesterday when i came home and told my wife the news it didnt go down to well, infact its caused me no end of verbal interlude yet i feel im just in a no win situation. I only had to do 24 hours OT yet ive done 38 so far and as i said there are those who have it as booked holiday havent done any. To me its a case of horrific mis management and we got to pay the price0

O/T at standard hourly rate isn't o/t to me, it's taking the p155.
You all need to stick together and refuse to work overtime until they actually pay you an enhanced rate.
Trust me on this when I say that when they are well behind with order deliveries and the customers are giving them grief, they will start to think seriously about paying overtime at a proper rate.
As for having to work three days next week, just do as little work as you can get away with.Never Knowingly Understood.
