I've just had a look at the box and yes it's a 'best before' date. As I say I think it was probably intended for the Mothers Day shoppers, so has probably been sitting around for at least.. 9 months? But it's unopened and still has its cellophane around it.

I've eaten chocolate years out of date. It doesn't go bad, but can develop a harmless white bloom, on the surface, which makes the texture odd (not that companies messing about with recipes haven't spoiled it anyway).

I had a Christmas pudding with a 2013 date with rum butter with a 2010 date the other night, and I'm still alive, and wasn't even slightly ill. I've got another pudding from 2009 that I might have for supper, now you've reminded me.

Eat them already! I've eaten all sorts of things years out of date, including a tin of sweetcorn that was two years out and no ill effects.

I'd eat them. I'd probably have never noticed the date either. I don't really bother looking at them. I think you're better off looking at the food itself if you want to know if it's any good or not.
