New Desktop PC

Hi
I am looking for a new desktop pc as my old one is about 10 years old and very slow. It also is Windows XP which no longer supports certain activities. I use it only for internet searches, e mails, music downloads and basic Microsoft office.
My question is it better to buy now or wait for deals in the January sales. Do you get better deals pre or post Christmas?

you may get a deal but on the bog standard desktops these days they dont seem to be heavily discounted
pick your budget ( i guess from what your needs are ) say £150 - £250 and check out online places like Ebuyer or even the argos ebay shop they have good deals there and you can collect instore"If I know I'm going crazy, I must not be insane"0 -
Removing bloatware and other clutter from the disk might give you a bit of a speedup.
Ever considered linux ? It can rejuvinate older machines.0 -
I suggest you consider something like these
Cube Caiman Micro ATX Desktop £230
Intel i3 Dual Core 3.5Ghz Processor
Kingston 4Gb DDR3 1600Mhz Memory
500Gb SATA3 Hard Drive
LiteOn 16x DVD RW
Memory Card Reader
Windows 8.1
ASUS G10AC-UK002S £300
Intel Core i5-4440s Quad Core Processor
Microsoft Windows 8.1 64-bit
8GB DDR3 RAM
1000GB HDD
DVD Rewriter
Dedicated GeForce GTX 650 1GB Graphics
USB3 | HDMI | Bluetooth
Integrated WiFi
G10AC-UK002S
Personally would avoid any intel celeron, pentium J2900 or AMD E series0 -
Thanks for this. I have a budget of about £400 but I need a cheapish colour printer as well.Val

I see Tesco has started their January sale early.
Is this PC suitable for what I am after?

I would avoid that, a good bargain at the moment from a retailer (sister site of saveonlaptops) that was linked to before by cisco001 is this:
Cube_Midi_Core_i3_Wireless_Home_Series
A considerably better processor (about 2x) for only £30 more.Science isn't exact, it's only confidence within limits.0 -
tesco direct sell cube PC as well.

For the type of work you describe, the Acer Revo core i3 nettop from EBuyer could be a good option at £199.98.
If you need a dvd reader/writer then an external Samsung at around £20 would be ideal but I have found I haven't used one for ages so it may not be essential.
I'm assuming you already have a monitor.

Thank you. This has been very helpful.
I now just have to decide between the Cube Caiman Micro ATX Desktop and the Cube Midi+ Core i3 Wireless Home Series Desktop PC with Microsoft Windows 8.1 Bing CU-MIDI+.
Both are the same price although buying the one from Tesco Direct get some Clubcard points which I can put towards buying a lazer printer.Val

Thanks for all the advice regarding a new pc. I just purchased the Cube Midi+ Core i3 Wireless Home Series Desktop PC with Microsoft Windows 8.1 Bing CU-MIDI+. I am really pleased with my purchase and it does all and more than I require.
I am on the look out now for a new printer to go with my new pc. I am not a heavy user and want it mostly to print off a few pages at a time. Nothing heavy duty. There will be the odd occasion when I might want to print off something in colour. I don't want to spend more than £70 ish and would like something with reasonably cheap refills/replacement cartridges.
Any suggestions greatly appreciated.Val
