Nationwide building society transport

Hello All,

Does anyone work for Nationwide Building society? I have received a job offer and contract, that states the work placement is Swindon ( I live in Swindon) and neighbouring locations. Traveling to neighbouring locations has not been mentioned in the position description or during interview. I don't drive and specifically have been looking for the job in Swindon. If traveling outside of Swindon is a requirement, does Nationwide provide transport between the branches? Thank you! Lena

  • Most contracts will stipulate that you must be prepared to work at other locations. I don't expect that transport would be provided in the majority of cases although travel expenses should be claimed
It's taken me years of experience to get this cynical

Might be worth checking with the HR department?
I'd be surprised if it was an insurmountable issue if it wasn't stated very clearly at the interview/job offer stage though.

I can't imagine there are many Nationwide branches that cannot be reached by public transport.

I'd recommend you speak to the Resourcing Consultant you were dealing with. I work in recruitment and most employment contracts will have wording like that which means if they ask you to work in London for 3 days for a project (for example) you can't turn around and say my contract says I don't need to do that.
Also, I think Nationwide has a number of different offices in Swindon so it may be to cover you working in different offices within the town - all of which I'd imagine were accessible by public transport.
