  • 2015 was the year we stopped adding to our debts and started living within our means and we have started to pay affordable amounts off the debts now ☺
Still hoping that eventually money will grow on trees then we can all live happily ever after ☺
In the mean time we are 31k worth of debt but it is coming down slowly....
  • Great reading all the responses. A couple downbeat but mostly really positive, and probably reflecting where different people are on the journey.

I hope the stories of success serve as inspiration for others, especially new posters, in the same way I was prompted to sort the mess of my finances out in large part after reading posts on here.

    3rd year SC dmp payments.
Recently joined 1000 savings 12 moths thread -170.00 saved in past 2 months.
From Jan20016 sky sports and movies cancelled (avoiding the +115 per month subs cost) reduced to approx 76 p/month.

Continued approx 60 p/month overpayments to existing mortgage.

Looking forward to 20016, have identified a few small savings early and later in the year.

Isn't it excellent having access to MSE forums even if browsing-particularly during SC years.

  • 2015 has been a year of consolidation for me. I've paid off quite a lot of debt although my focus has been saving (for another car when mine expires and is beyond all resuscitation). I now have enough money for a house deposit, too.
On the downside, my employer announced that they were closing my office and I don't know whether I'm able to WFH or will be asked to relocate - the latter isn't possible. So, I'm going to continue being frugal, with the help of all the lovely MSE posters.

I hope everyone gets all that they wish for in 2016.

  • My finances have been transformed from owing £7,500 and rising in May to owing around £2,000 now and expecting to officially have more than I owe by March 2016. The most important thing is that for the first time in my life I am genuinely clear on how much I can afford to spend at any given time. I'm not telling myself things like "it's fine, you can easily pay double the minimum payment" or "you'll pay it off when you earn more". My whole attitude has changed.

That said, I'm still very angry with myself. If I'd been more responsible I'd be getting married and buying a house now. I hate that my partner is having to wait for things because I've been such an idiot.
