Question about default timeing

Hi,
Apologies, I am sure this has been answered a dozen times but I can't find it.
I defaulted on a credit card in about 2008 (stupid really, I was just being disorganised). I repaid the debt and closed the account (obviously) in December 2010. I know that a default says on your file for 6 years and more or less blocks any new credit application.
I just checked by credit report and the account in question is showing as being in default until December 2010 and then "satisfied" in jan 2011, which is correct. The only history visible in from Jan 2010, as everything before that is over six years.
However, is is right that the default stays on my record for six years from the date I finally repaid the debt, or should it be six years from when I defaulted? When I've seen it discussed it seems to be the latter but that isn't the case on my file it appears.
All help appreciated!

Ignore the status history, the row or Ds or 8s.
What is important is the default date on the main part of the report. The entry/default/everything should be removed 6 years from that date.
For example:
Free/impartial debt advice: National Debtline | StepChange Debt Charity | Find your local CAB
IVA & fee charging DMP companies: Profits from misery, motivated ONLY by greed0 -
Cool - thank you. Mine says 05/01/2010 so I'll check again in late Jan and check it has gone.
