Thanks, it took me by surprise.
Many places in the uk are < 4 x income, some < 3x

Before looking at that info I would have not believed over half the country was between surprisingly cheap and affordable.

It is funny. If you believe what you read in the papers there's a massive, nationwide housing crisis/boom. The reality is that London and the SE are eye-wateringly expensive and most of the rest, with exceptions is reasonably priced.

    It's grim up North.

Depends on where you set the bar really. Some predicted an outpouring of biblical wrath and anger. Didn't happen.

North beats South every time in my eyes. Although I do like London for a weekend, I couldn't imagine staying for much longer.....

I think a reasonable argument can be made that the housing stock in the UK is quite poor quality

Part of this is because the stock is older (because we've built less in the last 20 years) vs say France and a bigger part is that as a nation we have yet to accept that as we get richer a lot of us really want a proper sized home rather than rooms barley big enough for a bed and wardrobe and kitchens that can only fit one adult in them at a time.

The new builds (not inc London) should concentrate on the larger higher end of the market. This seems to be the case in France and Germany where new builds are about 50pc larger.

So yes lots of the country is very affordable for 60sqm terrace homes. However that's 'not enough' anymore we really want 120sqm terrace homes and they are unaffordable and probably will be until the type of new builds change

What do you think the reason for smaller dwellings in the UK is?

Yorkshire's golden triangle is up North. Very nice place to live. Check it out, one of the exceptions as it is expensive.
