Common sense employment advice needed

Good evening,
My first post on here but would be grateful for any advice particularly from anyone with employment law/ recruitment experience (though any help much approaciated)

I recently left a job after 5 years for a new one 3 months ago which in all honesty I actually hate, numerous reasons but it's the worst mistake I've made and feel full of regret regarding the mistake of my ill advised move (my old position has been filled)

I was due to complete a probabtion period this week but it's now been extended by a month. It's quite clear I'm not right for the role or that the role is right for me and I feel the writing is definalty on the wall for me. My objectives in relation to passing this next month (with two weeks off for Xmas) are too unreasonable but after 3 months of being unhappy, I'm just wanting out.

Is it advisable to resign saying the Position wasn't for me as apposed to being finisjed at the end of my probabtion? I do have a few options but I'm worried about how if spin it in future interviews? But surely to resign is better than being pushed?

I've never been so unhappy and the job is taking it's tole on my health. All I want to do is leave the situation in the best possible way and move forward.

    Nothing shameful with telling a future employer that you moved from a 5 year + job for a new challenge but found the new challenge not what you expected.

    My thoughts would be either:

    1. Quit now and just be honest with future employers, giving 100% effort to finding a more suitable role safe in the knowledge that you have 5 years of experience and a solid leaving reason behind you.

    2. Stay on the money train for now, making sure to apply for more suitable jobs when you get the chance/in between work.
