Does anyone use a Chromebook?

Up until now I have always done my comping on my tablet but whilst it is easy to pick up and put down, it's not particularly comping friendly.

I have been thinking about asking for a chromebook for Christmas to use exclusively for comping and surfing the net and I was just wondering if anyone else uses a chromebook for comping and how they find it?

I am keen to find a way of speeding up my entries. Auto fill in the tablet works ok but isn't brilliant and obviously some comps aren't tablet friendly at all.

We don't have a massive budget and have no real need for another laptop (hubs has one that he uses for work etc). Is a chromebook a good solution or not?

I appreciate your opinions. Thanks.

I don't own one but have used one many times in work. They are great for general browsing and would probably make an ideal comping laptop as they run chrome obviously. I found chrome the easiest browser to use for comping and it's own autofill has worked much better than any addon scripts i've used for other browsers. There's only the odd few sites that I have to manually input the data into the boxes because the autofill doesn't like it. They are very fast at loading up as there is barely anything on it and very lightweight so easily moved around the house (or out the house).

I can't say for sure it'll be perfect for comping as i've not used them for that purpose, but they are fast, lightweight and chrome is good so I can't see why it would be an issue

I do 99% of my comping on a chromebook- I think they are fantastic.

The only time I need the PC (for comping) is when I want to post a screen shot. My tablet is gathering dust somewhere.

    Advantages
Logged into MSE about 6 seconds after pressing power button.
    No Anti-Virus needed
Silent - no fan or hard drive
    No installing updates.
    Real keyboard

    Disadvantages
No Roboform (I use Chrome autofill & popchrom)

    Niggles
No "delete" key - only backspace

I second what One-Eye says. I have a chromebook and not only are they good value, attractive and SUPER speedy - they don't seem to slow down.

The disadvantages are very limited hard drive storage, but google makes up for this with free cloud storage.

I would highly recommend, I don't think I'd ever go back to a normal laptop.

Agree with One Eye and emilybc.

I absolutely love mine, they are so fast to use.

I'm able to do screen shots on mine (an Acer) and Roboform is available for it. I had problems with Roboform but think that was down to my device.

Battery life is fantastic on these too.

emilybc is right, they don't slow down over time.
  • Thank you all for your helpful advice. I did get a Chromebook for Christmas and I am using it for the first time tonight. So far I am enjoying having a real keyboard and it seems to be very comping friendly.

Its taking a bit of getting used to but hopefully I will adjust fairly quickly.

    Thanks again
