I need to bake something savoury for our work Christmas party and I wondered if anyone would recommend something to make? I'm reasonably competent (have made birthday cakes before) but not a GBBO contestant.

A very nice savoury version of bread pudding, nice and easy, only instead of sugar and candied fruit you add beaten egg, grated cheddar, chopped fried onions, even a few cubed saut!ed vegetables to the bread soaked in milk. And spices to taste of course!
I used to make this as a main course for my family when the kids were little, adding broccoli and carrots, and we all loved it.Finally I'm an OAP and can travel free (in London at least!).0 -
do you mean little 'bites' for a buffet or a 'sharing' dish? for how many people?0

One of my favourites is Glamorgan sausage rolls (suggest Delia on-line for the recipe, there are a few variations). Essentially vegetarian sausage rolls, but for those who loathe commercial vege sausages, these are made with a traditional Welsh recipe.
At our family gatherings, they are very popular with the meat eaters, and at works things they go down well with the veges and the those who don't eat pork.0 -
Cheese Palms
Puff pastry, rolled out thin, brush with milk, scatter with shaved parmesan, fold long edges into the middle, repeat milk and parmesan, fold long edges to the middle again. cut into half inch slices, place on tray cut edge down, bake 180-200, 20 mins 'til golden.Chin up, Titus out.0 -
Spicy/pizza pinwheels.
Cover puff pastry with either pesto (red works well) or tomato puree. Sprinkle this with grated cheese. Carefully roll up into a spiral. Cut into 1cm thick pieces and put in a hot oven for about 10 mins (until golden brown).

a variation of a recipe I posted on JackieOs halloumi thread.
spicy 'coinpurse' bites
which is filo pastry cut into 3 inch squares and filled with any spicy filling you like (curried chicken, chilli, prawns and sweet chilli sauce etc). just gather the edges up and brush the outsides with oil and bake in a hot oven for 10 - 12 mins. You could even use the filling I suggested on the thread.

you could go retro and make savoury vol au vents. The usual canap! or sandwich type fillings would work, except perhaps the dryer ones. E.g. smoked salmon and cream cheese, grated cheese and spring onions in mayo etc.Shrinking my mortgage!

Corned beef and potato pie always goes down well.0
