Cheque issues

Are you saying that Halifax would treat you as being in an overdraft situation and issue penalty charges even though you had a fat (but uncleared) account balance? And not to let you have a temporary o'draft while your fat cheque was clearing seem unnecessarily mean. Make a note to change banks when this is all over.
remember at that point, the cheque could be returned as bounced. Most banks would do this, if not all (unless overdraft facility)
It is a basic account meaning no overdraft facility0 -
This is a bit "wise after the event" but you could have asked your solicitor to CHAPS the funds to your current account and you'd have had them same day, cleared.
Rather less hassle than what you are now going through.0 -
defo agree with that0

If the OP has a basic account with Halifax I'm sure you can only use the expresspay or cash machine to deposit cheques and cannot use the counter to pay them in any other way anyway.0
