paying morgage over more years

I have a morgage with around £100,000 left to go on it i am looking to pay the morgage over more years to give us alittle extra cash each month.I wanted to extend the morgage for a further 8 years but i have just been on the morgage companys website to give me an idea what our morgage payments may reduce to and it is giving the same figures.

Surley if i am wanting to pay the morgage over a further 8 years the payments should go down am i missing something.

To pay the morgage over an extra 8 years would that make a great difference to our monthly payments?
