:(

Someone on another board (I'll let you guess which one ;) ) took a dislike to me, and started leaping on my posts, name-calling, telling me I was rude, ignorant and that I should stop posting :(

I responded
Your posting style suggests you just want to pick a fight and take the whole thread off topic. I noticed similar behaviour from you on another thread recently, one that eventually had to be deleted.

This is a great website but I find it sad that a small minority of forum users are choosing to spend their time disrupting the boards by trolling and generally being unpleasant.

and didn't respond any further to that person, at all.

They then went back in and edited all their posts, taking out the offensive bits and writing something quite different to what they had originally written.

OK that's an end to it, I thought.

But seriously, do people really have nothing better to do :(

You could reply to the MSE message, suggesting that they take a look at the "Post Edit History" of the posts you were replying to, to see that you were not the one who instigated things.

However, as MSE say in the forum rules/FAQ...
Just report it and let the Forum Team deal with it, even if you feel justified to make a comment. If you do, action could be taken on your posts as well.

Take screenshots as 'evidence' if it ever happens again - so even if the person in question 'edits' their posts you still have a truthful record of what went down

You could quote their posts, then you will have their quotes on your posts which they then cannot edit.

Q!This sort of thing is happening more and more. Some people can get away with murder and others get what you got. It is one reason why many long term posters have left or don't bother posting much these days. It is a waste of time actually entering into a 'discussion' as we all used to. Very sad really.:(

I think just about everyone gets Trolled. Its how you deal with it that matters, most trolls like to be fed and this can be done simply by reacting.

Trolls don't like in-action or to be blanked completely. They are often seen tearing their own hair out under a bridge through the frustration of being completely invisible to those that cross over it. ;)

Yep, that's what I would do, apart from the add them to ignore, I would just ignore them anyway.

I've never bothered using the ignore function. Maybe I should :o I think you can still see their posts if someone else quotes them, though.
