Sharing from money saving fanatic

Intro of ourselves ...... http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?t=534678

This is how we control expenses on the day-to-day stuff :

1) Budget the grocery including eating out, on a weekly basis.
If we overspend this week, our budget for next week will be reduce to make up for it.
We find it really effective in controlling expenses.

2) Make sure the fridge is empty at the end of the week. Buy just enough for the week.

3) Bulk purchase of meats from butcher and repack them into many small storage bags. The frozen meats will last for 3 months. Never buy meats from supermarket.

4) Always look out for special offer on pasta sauce, soup, beer, wine and etc.

5) Bring home-packed sandwiches to work.

6) Plot the monthly utilities costs to monitor consuming pattern/habits.

7) Change lightings to energy saving bulbs.

8) Buy prepaid card for mobile phone (for emergency use only). One card last for a year. Never subscribe to mobile phone company.

9) Cut each other hair (still looks good :D ). Never go to a hairdresser.

10) Wear the clothing and shoes until broken or worn out. Never budget for clothing and shoes cos' we don't see the need to buy any for a long, long time.

11) Reduce car insurance premium every year by basing on the car depreciated value.

12) Unclutter the house by ebaying unwanted household stuff.

13) Use credit card to pay most of the household expenses and make use of the interest-free period of 56 days. Never roll over the expenses.

14) Monitor bank account and credit card online everyday.

15) Challenge each other with new money saving ideas.

Hi swingjune, welcome to the UK (I love NZ btw, was there last summer, or should I say winter!)
Its great to see your so committed to the dfw lifestyle.
Thanks for posting your tips, I especially like no 15!No 10 applies to me, I have a wardrobe full of clothes and decided in Jan I dont need to buy anymore in 2007. I did have a baby in April, so need to grow back into mine, but it motivates me to loose weight or ebay them.
I hope people on here will also be able to take some tips from you.
